Bards – Russian Troubadours

SOLOVETKY ISLANDS. A bard is something like a Russian version of a troubadour – a person who performs his own songs, to his own accompaniment, usually guitar. An additional plus is if you perform the music outdoors, preferably at a campfire in the company of colleagues and good friends. Many bards wear beards. (The word bard is also used in Celtic and Nordic languages for a singer/poet.) You can find bard clubs all around Russia. In the Russian Barents the ”Vostok” festival, held on the Solovetsky Islands in August, is quite famous.
