ARKHANGELSK. Once again the streets of Arkhangelsk is taken over by dancers, acrobats, musicians, jokers and other adventurous people. The annual street theater festival kicked off on Monday and runs until Sunday. In its 19th edition, the International Theatre Festival is now an established event in Europe. Over the years, groups and solo artists from all over Russia, but also from France, Italy, Spain, Germany, Sweden etc. have changed the street scene in the old Pomor City during a summer week. Locals have gotten used to strange performances, surprises and bare skin, and learned to like it.

The man behind the festival, the leader of the Youth Theatre, Viktor Panov is a fearless and tireless cultural profile in Arkhangelsk. His stubborn and frank requests for support from the authorities has borne fruit. During the opening of the festival on Monday, governor Orlov stood beside him on the Drama Theater stage and stressed the importance of the festival for the Arkhangelsk Region.

Next year means the 20th festival, and will of course be bigger and crazier than ever. You can already make a note in your calendar – the XX International Street Theatre Festival takes place in Arkhangelsk in late June 2014.
