KUKKOLAFORSEN. ”Bring the towel” ( Ta’ med handduken) is an annual sauna feast at Kukkolaforsen village and rapids by the Torne River. Here, some 15 kilometres north of Haparanda,  sauna aficionados get together to fulfill their hottest and wettist dreams. This Thursday the opportunity once again arose – six well heated saunas waited to be tested and enjoyed: the big village sauna, the Indian tent sauna, the smoke sauna, barrel sauna and VIP sauna.

Beside the sauna complex (being headquarters of the Swedish Sauna Academy) the temperated water of the wild running Torne River offers a natural cooling after hot and humid experiences. On the opposite shore, Finland, the mythical sauna homeland, tempts with more sauna delights.

Drinks and snacks are an essential part of the ritual – and of course the socializing with old and new  acquaintances sharing the same passion.
